NORAZ Poetry Salon - Every Wednesday at 7:00 PM at The Well Red Coyote, 3190 W. Highway 89A, Sedona, Arizona. It will cover readings, writing exercises, plus a lot of fun and support. All levels of experience are welcome. Open to the public.

Monthly Photography Workshops; This event will take place in London, United Kingdom. It will include fashion, beauty, glamour and fine artistic figure photography workshops.

L. Ron Hubbard's Writers and Illustrators Of The Future Contest; The Contest will continue yearly with the following quarterly periods. To be eligible for the quarterly judging, an entry must be postmarked no later than Midnight on the last day of the Quarter. October 1 - December 31 / January 1 - March 31 / April 1 - June 30 / July 1 - September 30. This is a great contest, with no entry fee, yet they offer great cash awards, publication in a book and a one week class with professional authors.

Residency Program for Photographers - The Center for Photography in Woodstock, New York, is looking for photographers of color. They have an artist-in-residence program which offers room and board at the Historic Byrdcliff Arts Colony for two to four weeks. Travel reimbursement and an honorarium are also provided. Main Photographic Workshops at Rockport College - They offer over 250 workshops that last from one to two weeks, weekends and master classes. There is also a one-year Professional Certification program and a three-year MFA and AA degree program.

Santa Fe Workshops - Offers one-week photography and digital workshops. These workshops are geared for people at all levels of experience. Workshops include Photoshop, digital printmaking, creative digital techniques and Epson Printmaking.

WPPI 2008 Convention and Trade Show; March 13-20, 2008; This event will take place at Bally's, Las Vegas, Nevada. "The Trade Show will be our biggest one yet, and the largest in the U.S. pro photography market, with 350+ exhibitors! Our programming will include the top speakers from all areas of photography, and we'll guarantee an abundance of seating!"

Abroad Writers' Conference; March 15-22, 2008; This event will take place at the Rivera, France. "We are one of the most prestigious international writers' conferences, where world voices in the Arts and Sciences are heard. Our top-heavy conference is led by some of the world's most talented authors, poets, screenwriters and literary agents with a ratio of 1 to 3. Instead of being lost in a crowd at a large conference, Abroad Writers' Conference prides itself on holding small group meetings where participants have personal contact with everyone. Willow Springs Writing Contest; Deadline: March 15, 2008; "If you would like to submit in fiction, please keep entries to 7,000 words or less. If you would like to submit in poetry, the limit is five poems. If you would like to submit for both prizes, please use two separate envelopes and two entry fees. All contest entrants will receive the Willow Springs issue containing the award-winning works. Fiction pays $500 and poetry pays $400." Entry fee is $15.

Unpublished Author Award; Deadline: March 15, 2008; "Applicant must mail four copies of an original, unpublished fiction work (short story or novel excerpt) not to exceed 2,000 typed words on double-spaced pages. The $500 winner will be invited, along with a guest, to attend our annual awards ceremony and work may be featured in the Go On Girl! Quarterly newsletter and/or on our website. Note - the mission of the Go On Girl! organization is to encourage the literary pursuits of people of African descent." There is no entry fee.

Writelines Workshop; March 18, 2008; This event will take place in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The conference features workshops, peer critique groups, book signings and more."

The Native American Literature Symposium, Many Voices, One Center; March 27-29, 2008; This event will take place in Minneapolis, Minesota. The event includes panel discussions, readings, exhibits, demonstrations, and workshops highlighting the heritage and impact of Native Americans on current American literature.

Well-Fed Writer Seminar With Peter Bowerman; March 28, 2008; This event will take place in Atlanta, Georgia. "Ready to get serious about taking your writing income to the next level? International Playwrights Forum; Deadline: March 31, 2008; "For 2008, the International Playwrights' Forum pays attention to the clashes inherent in contemporary life. We are inviting playwrights to write monodramas inspired by whatever 'clash' may mean to them. Monodrama is a medium where clashes can be seen in the individual. The entries must be in one of the UNESCO languages (English and French) or in Arabic. The play has to be a monodrama: a play written for one performer. 1st prize: $1,500 US-Dollars, 2nd prize: $1,000 dollars, 3rd prize: $500 dollars. The winning plays will be announced at the next Congress of International Theatre Institute in 2008.' There is no entry fee.

The Expressive Black And White Print ; April 8-13, 2008; This event will take place in Carmel Valley, California. This class will be taught by John Sexton.

Odyssey - The Fantasy Writing Workshop; June 9 - July 18, 2008 (Deadline April 10); This event will take place in Manchester, New Hampshire. "Since its inception in 1996, Odyssey has quickly become one of the most highly respected workshops for writers of fantasy, science fiction, and horror. Top authors, editors and agents have served as guests at Odyssey, and 52% of graduates have gone on to be published. The workshop, held annually on the campus of Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, runs for six weeks, and combines an intensive learning and writing experience with in-depth feedback on students' manuscripts. Odyssey is for developing writers whose work is approaching publication quality and for published writers who want to improve their work. Those who attend must be ready to put aside all their other concerns and make a single-minded effort to improve their writing. This is a serious, demanding program. I'm constantly told by graduates that they learned more at Odyssey than they learned in years of workshopping and creative writing classes. You should not apply unless you are ready to hear about the weaknesses in your writing and ready to work to overcome them. Class meets for 4 hours in the morning, 5 days a week, and students use afternoons, evenings, and weekends to write, read each other's work, and complete other class assignments. Florence Poetry Society Contest; Deadline: April 15, 2008; "Each entrant receives a copy of Silkworm 2008. Winner receives $1,000, publication in Silkworm and a radio interview. Noteworthy works will earn the poet a designation Poet of Distinction or Poet of Merit and with it consideration for publication in Silkworm 2008, as well as a commemorative printed award of said designation." Watercolor: Simple, Fast, and Focused; April 21-25, 2008; This event will take place at Cheap Joe's, Charlotte, North Carolina. The instructor will be Mel Stabin.

ASPP Education Conference; April 24-28, 2008; This event will take place in Phoenix, Arizona. "The fifth Educational Conference of the American Society of Picture Professionals will provide informational sessions for image buyers and sellers alike, as well as fantastic networking opportunities. Topics to be covered will include informational updates on the latest legal and technical issues for the photographic industry, the photo research process, marketing, as well as the changing face of the industry."

Coreldraw Unleashed Bootcamp; April 24-26, 2008; This event will take place in Cave Creek, Arizona. Bootcamps are usually an intense learning experience that can give you a lot of information in a short time.

Beach Book Festival; Deadline: April 25, 2008; "The Beach Book Festival will consider self-published or independent publisher non-fiction, fiction, biography/autobiography, children's books, teenage, how-to, science fiction, romance, comics, poetry, spiritual, compilations/anthologies, history, business and health-oriented books published on or after Jan. 1, 2000 and be commercially available. Our grand prize for the 2008 Beach Book Festival is $1,500 cash, a flight to Atlantic City and a publicity campaign from a leading international PR firm following the competition." Entry fee is $50.

Mslexia Women's Poetry Competition; Deadline: April 25, 2008; "1st Prize £1,000, 2nd prize £500, 3rd prize £250. 22 other finalists will win £25 each and all winning poems will be published in Mslexia. Poems may be in any style, of any length, on any subject." Entry fee is £5 for up to 3 poems.

The Fountainhead Essay Contest For Young Writers (11th and 12th graders); Deadline: April 25, 2008; "1,600 word essays on one of the three topics from the website. Judges will look for writing that is clear, articulate and logically organized. Winning essays must demonstrate an outstanding grasp of the philosophic and psychological meaning of The Fountainhead." Prize is $10,000.

Beyond Structure Screenwriting Workshop; April 26-27, 2008; This event will take place in New York, New York. Saturday covers over 100 techniques for making your characters and dialogue stand out. Sunday covers over 100 techniques for creating compelling plots and scenes.

Watercolor-Painting Outside the Lines; April 28 - May 2, 2008; This event will take place at Cheap Joe's, Charlotte, North Carolina. The instructor will be Linda Kemp.

Fashion Photography: The True Story with Claudio Basso; April 28-29, 2008; This event will take place in New York, New York. Glimmer Train Standard Short Fiction Contest; Deadline: April 30, 2008; "12,000 words max. No minimum word count, but rare for pieces of less than 500 words to read as a story. Max 3 submissions per author per month. Online submissions preferred. No children's stories. Prize is $700, publication in Glimmer Train Stories and 10 copies of that issue."

Fugue Poetry And Prose Contest; Deadline: May 1, 2008; First place winner receives $1,000 and publication. Second and Third prize winners receive publication. Story submissions should not exceed 10,000 words in length. Entry fee is $20.

Zone 3 First Book Award For Poetry; Deadline: May 1, 2008; "$1,000 and publication in an edition of 1,000 copies. Poetry manuscripts of 48-80 pages. Anyone who has not published a full-length collection of poems (48 pages or more) is eligible; those with chapbooks may participate." Entry fee is $20.

Horizon Photography Summit; First week in May, 2008; This event will take place in Chesapeake City, Maryland. This summit will include classes, discussions, portfolio reviews and field trips with instructors, such as: Jim Clark (nature), Lou Jones (travel), Harvey Stein (documentary), Bob Madden (The National Geographic Assignment), Steve Gottlieb (creative vision) and others.

Lorain Hemingway Short Story Competition; Deadline: May 1, 2008; "The first-place winner will receive $1,000 in cash, while the second and third-place winners will receive $500 each. Created to support and encourage the efforts of writers who have not yet achieved major-market success. To be eligible for the 2008 competition, stories must be original unpublished fiction, typed and double-spaced, and they may not exceed 3,000 words in length. There are no theme restrictions." Barnstorm XXI; Deadline: May 2, 2008; Event: October 10-13; This event will take place in Jeffersonville, New York. "The Eddie Adams Workshop accepts college students, professionals with 3 years or less experience, and U.S. military photographers. Applicants are required to submit a completed application, a $40 application fee, a personal statement, a recommendation, and a portfolio of no more than 10 images. Prior Workshop attendees are not eligible to apply again. 50 students and 50 professionals (including military) will be selected for Barnstorm."

Second Book Publicity Retreat With Tom Bird; May 2-4, 2008; This event will take place in Sedona, Arizona. "Offered only once a year, this retreat focuses on the third essential ingredient to an author's success. For the second year in a row, Tom will be bringing in book promotional specialist Joanne McCall to join him in preparing his students to become the book promoting dynamos they need to be. The first segment of this retreat focuses upon presenting you with a full overview of everything you need to know about book publicity. Sixth Annual Saints and Sinners Literary Festival; May 8-11, 2007; This event will take place in New Orleans, Louisiana. "Workshops will be facilitated by Aaron Hamburger: Transcending Seeing for Setting ; Michelle Tea: Your DIY Career: How to Build a Sustainable Writing Life from the Ground Up; Jim Grimsley: Reassessing a Problem Manuscript: Strategies for the Second Draft; and a conversation "Unscripted" with Dorothy Allison. Panels are being assembled and a number of exciting social events are also being planned. Feel free to email ideas for literary panel topics and ideas for discussions. If you are planning to register for the event and would like to participate in the reading series, there are still reading spaces available."

Finding Your Focus In Sedona, Arizona; November 10-15, 2008; This event will take place in Sedona, Arizona.
