NORAZ Poetry Salon - Every Wednesday at 7:00 PM at The Well Red Coyote, 3190 W. Highway 89A, Sedona, Arizona. It will cover readings, writing exercises, plus a lot of fun and support. All levels of experience are welcome. Open to the public.

Monthly Photography Workshops; This event will take place in London, United Kingdom. It will include fashion, beauty, glamour and fine artistic figure photography workshops.

L. Ron Hubbard's Writers and Illustrators Of The Future Contest; The Contest will continue yearly with the following quarterly periods. To be eligible for the quarterly judging, an entry must be postmarked no later than Midnight on the last day of the Quarter. October 1 - December 31 / January 1 - March 31 / April 1 - June 30 / July 1 - September 30. This is a great contest, with no entry fee, yet they offer great cash awards, publication in a book and a one week class with professional authors.

Residency Program for Photographers - The Center for Photography in Woodstock, New York, is looking for photographers of color. They have an artist-in-residence program which offers room and board at the Historic Byrdcliff Arts Colony for two to four weeks. Travel reimbursement and an honorarium are also provided. Main Photographic Workshops at Rockport College - They offer over 250 workshops that last from one to two weeks, weekends and master classes. There is also a one-year Professional Certification program and a three-year MFA and AA degree program.

Santa Fe Workshops - Offers one-week photography and digital workshops. These workshops are geared for people at all levels of experience. Workshops include Photoshop, digital printmaking, creative digital techniques and Epson Printmaking.

On Line Classes for Writers and Artists; This event will take place online. "Each course is delivered via e-mail there are no classes to attend. Fit learning into your own schedule and save travel time and expense! Each week you will receive your lesson notes along with your assignments."

Digital Photography Discussion Group; Third Thursday of every month; This event will take place in Escondido, California. "Discussion ranges from industry technology trends to software for photographers to how to get the most out of advanced digital gear."

Sottile's Monthly Children's Poetry Contest; Enter any month between the 1st and 21st; "Sottile's Monthly Poetry Contest (Silly, Serious, or Mysterious Poems) for Kids in Grades 1-12. Winners will be posted on the website and receive electronic writing certificates."

Nikon School; June 6-7, 2009; This event will take place in New York, New York. Introduction to Digital SLR Photography - An exciting format for capturing special moments, preserving precious memories and creating compelling images, digital photography presents a unique set of techniques and terminology. Next Steps: Color, Light, Technology - Continually updated to reflect the latest industry developments and recent Nikon-driven technological advances, Next Steps in Digital Photography focuses on expanding your understanding of the digital workflow process and how to use it to enhance your results. Registration must be received by Nikon School ten business days prior to the course date. Introduction to Digital SLR Photography: $119. Next Steps in Digital Photography: Color, Light, Technology: $159. Watercolor in France with Barbara Nechis, AWS; June 8-18, 2009. This event will take place in Languedoc and Provence, France. It covers watercolor for students at all levels. For info: (858) 518-0949.

Odyssey 2009; June 8 - July 17, 2009. This event will take place at Saint Anselm College, Manchester, New Hampshire. "Since its inception in 1996, Odyssey has become one of the most highly respected workshops for writers of fantasy, science fiction, and horror. Top authors, editors and agents have served as guests, and 53% of graduates have become published. The annual six-week workshop is a serious, demanding program for developing writers whose work is approaching publication quality and for published writers who want to improve their work. Class meets for four hours each morning, five days/week. Half of class time is spent on lectures, writing exercises, and discussions; the other half is spent workshopping student stories. Students devote afternoons and evenings to writing, critiquing each other's work, and completing class assignments. Guest lecturers visit one day/week and New York Times best selling author Carrie Vaughn is writer-in-residence for an entire week. College credit is available."

Highlights Foundation Whole-Novel Workshop; (Application Deadline April 1) June 13-20, 2009; northern Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania; If you crave the attention found in degree programs, but have neither the time nor the financial means to commit to a lengthy academic program, the Highlights Foundation has the workshop of your dreams. Designed for writers of middle-grade and young-adult novels, our Whole-Novel Workshop offers the one-on-one attention found in degree programs, without additional academic requirements or the need for a long-term commitment. Focused attention in an intimate setting makes this mentorship program one that guarantees significant progress. The weeklong workshop is limited to eight students.

Writing Workshop; June 27, 2009; This event will take place in Sedona, Arizona. "Southern literary author and writing instructor, Joanna Beth Tweedy, author of 'The Yonder Side Of Sass And Texas,' will conduct a workshop on language as landscape and the many inextricable ways diction and place intersect in both poetry and fiction - as well as how to use this connection to hone works and bring them to life. For novelists, poets and short story writers, as well as readers of literary and general fiction."

The Poem and the Dream; June 27 - July 3, 2009; This event will take place in Anam Cara, Ireland. Leaders: Award-winning Irish poet and playwright Paula Meehan; dreamworker Juliet Clancy. This workshop uses dreamwork as a tool for making connections to poetry and a guide to reading and understanding the poems of self and others.

July

Writing Summer Camp For Kids; July; Altamonte Springs, Florida; We had so much fun in summer camp last year, I've scheduled it again for July this year. Students entering grades 6 - 12 are invited to gather from 8:30 - 12:30 each morning for a week of writing from prompts. On the Sunday evening after the week is completed, we will have an open house where the authors will read from their works and describe to their parents what we did all week. Expect laughter and creativity coming out their ears! This workshop is for children who enjoy writing; it is not for students needing remedial help.

Antioch Writers' Workshop; July 11-17, 2009; This event will take place in Yellow Springs, Ohio. "Faculty - Zakes Mda, South African novelist, poet, and playwright. Author of Ways of Dying and Heart of Redness, winner of the Sunday Times Fiction Award. Nahid Rachlin, author of Persian Girls, Jumping Over Fire, and Foreigner. Other faculty includes John Drury, Joyce Dyer, Mary Grimm, Rebecca McClanahan, Randy McNutt, and Crystal Wilkinson. Program - Morning Lectures: During three consecutive lectures-- fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction--noted authors tell you how to hone your craft and keep your writing fresh. Afternoon Sessions: Professionals speak on the business side of writing and the First Book Talk features workshop alumni who've gone on to publish their work. During optional Afternoon Intensives participants "workshop" their manuscripts. Private manuscript consultations are available at an additional charge. Evening Activities: Lively readings, stimulating panel discussions and dramatic presentations feature faculty and special guests. Coffee House Readings provide an opportunity for participants to listen to the work of fellow writers and read from their own work. Writing from Within: Haiku and the Spiritual Dimension; July 18-24, 2009; This event will take place in Anam Cara, Ireland. Leaders: Leading Irish haiku poet Maeve O'Sullivan; published haiku poet Kim Richardson. Combining haiku work with meditation, breath and light practices, the aim is to heighten levels of awareness and to open creative channels.

The International Artists' and Writers' Workshops; July 26 - August 7, 2009. This event will take place in Ghana, West Africa. "The IAWW provides authentic travel/education experiences with attentive, personalized service in a comfortable, safe atmosphere. Our goal is to make a vacation to the developing world a satisfying, multi-faceted experience of creativity and self-discovery. With our carefully designed itinerary blending contact with Ghanaian culture, structured workshops taught by award-winning artists and time to write, the program fosters a unique space for people to unwind and become receptive to creative breakthroughs and new experiences. By keeping class sizes small, we maintain an intimate, intensive and supportive atmosphere. For our inaugural Ghana trip, award-winning writer and filmmaker Shane Book will lead the program. Accra highlights include visits to the Nkrumah Memorial and African American scholar and writer W.E.B. Du Bois's last home and resting place. In the evenings participants have the option of exploring Accra's nightlife or working on their writing. From Accra we travel to a beautiful coastal village. Here the emphasis is on creating new work. In addition to leading the workshop, the faculty is available for individual manuscript consultations. When not writing, participants can relax on the beach or meet local residents for a taste of Ghanaian village life. Star Island Writing Retreat; August 31 - September 4, 2009; Star Island, New Hampshire; "WriteLines is heading to Star Island, off the coast of New Hampshire, for our fifth annual retreat. Wewill write from prompts, revise what we have written, befriend other writers, present to other conferences on the island, relax in rattan rockers on the wraparound porch, sip a lime rickey, carry an antique candlelit lantern after dark to a tiny stone chapel, sleep on a boulder listening to pounding surf, enjoy a panoramic view of sea and surf, store up memories for the winter ahead, and leave full to the brim."

Photography - Fall Color of the Grand Tetons with Henry Holdsworth; September 25-29, 2009; This class is being offered from Arizona Highways, a magazine known for their great photographs.

Writing Retreat in Tuscany; September 25 - October 2, 2009; Optional Arezzo Antique Fair Extension October 3-4. "Join us for a week of writing and traveling in Italy's jewel, Tuscany. We'll be based in the beautiful, medieval town of Arezzo, home to exquisite Renaissance frescoes and other art treasures. Exploring the softly rolling countryside with vineyards, olive groves, and deep green cypress trees, we'll visit charming nearby cities and towns. Most days, we'll have a morning class in Arezzo and an afternoon excursion. Our visits to markets, medieval towns, and Renaissance art will provide great material for writers of all genres, especially those who would like to write memoir, travel, food, art or history. We're staying in lovely studio apartments, each with private bath and kitchen. The workshop includes classes, side trips, and writing time. This will be a memorable experience. Laura Deutsch is a writer, writing coach, editor and teacher based in Mill Valley, California. Her personal essays, features, travel and humor pieces have appeared in the New York Times, More magazine, San Francisco magazine, the San Francisco Chronicle and other publications. A graduate of Bryn Mawr and the University of Chicago Law School, she spent a year in Europe and a year in Mexico as a Fulbright Scholar, Laura has led writing workshops and retreats for more than 15 years and has taught writing at UC Berkeley, San Francisco State, Book Passage and the Writer's Center of Marin."

Leaders: American novelist, playwright, and poet Karen Blomain; American playwright and scriptwriting coach Michael Downend. Designed for writers at all levels of accomplishment and appropriate for all genres.

Sedona Book Festival; October 2-3, 2009; This event will take place in Sedona, Arizona. "Friday Evening, October 2: Spotlighting Southwest authors and celebrating the pleasures of reading, writing and books for all ages, the first Sedona Book Festival will kick off with a fund-raising Southwest BBQ to benefit Verde Valley Caregivers Coalition, festival co-founder along with The Well Red Coyote. Keynote speakers for the evening will be Barbara Peters and Robert Rosenwald, founders of The Poisoned Pen Bookstore and The Poisoned Pen Press, respectively, in Scottsdale, Arizona, addressing 'Trends in the World of Publishing.' Honored authors of the evening and the Festival will be two award-winning local authors who have contributed greatly to the literary culture of Sedona - James Bishop, Jr., and Kris Neri. Bishop is a freelance writer, editor and creative writing instructor and author of the first biography of Cactus Ed Abbey. Neri is the multi-award-winning author of the Tracy Eaton mystery series, as well as an instructor for the prestigious Writers Program of the UCLA Extension School. Saturday, October 3, 9-5: The Festival, which will be free and open to the public, will be held in the parking lot behind the Well Red Coyote on 89A at Dry Creek Rd. The formal program will kick off at 10AM and will include a full day of author readings and discussions, authors selling and signing their books, a children's program, and live music."
